Flooring

THOUGHTS ON FLOORING A CONCEPT OF THE CYMDEITHAS

Flooring is of course an extremely important concept of Cymdeithas life. Not a day goes by where the notion isn’t discussed or practiced in one way or another. But what is it really about? How can DHAs comprehend what its impact on life could be, if it were to be adopted as a tool and as a philosophy.

First let us take a deeper look at the philosophy behind the concept (even though certain members would call it the science of flooring). Needless to say, that it has nothing to do with the flooring of a room, although the flooring of a surface can be used as a metaphor of sorts. We walk on the flooring, don’t we? Whether its a laminate flooring, a carpet flooring or a natural stone flooring, it makes our walking on the surface more comfortable and more attractive to the eye, as it also acts as a part of the interior design of a space. The same goes for flooring as we understand the process in the Cymdeithas. Yes, flooring is a process for us, an ongoing and to a certain extent never ending process (for if it were to end, it would mean that there exists an end to human development and evolution, which, as far as we can tell, there does not). So, in other words, flooring is meant to make our passage through life more comfortable and more attractive and it does so through a process of hardship. I’ll repeat this for the sake of clarity: Flooring is hardship. If it isn’t hard and straining, it most probably isn’t flooring. For only through hard work, sweat, and dedicated effort can we pave the way. And yes, paving the way in the literal sense is of course: flooring.

The goal of the flooring process is to have solid ground beneath our feet and not some wobbly surface that makes us prone to having an accident. Solid ground is akin to basing your life upon facts. If somebody told you that the best way of eating is to eat only sugary foods and drink only sugary drinks, you would’t believe the person, because your instinct tells you that this would not be a sustainable way of living. It would not be based on facts either. It would mean buying into some Lledrith inspired lie, would lead to ill health, and would clearly not be a good path to tread on. Flooring would prompt you to challenge such advice, leading you towards a more fact-based approach to eating.

In other words, we could say that flooring is the search for truth, which often is a rather uncomfortable journey. On the other side, flooring is also the activity of applying real knowledge. If for instance you understand that being strong is a worthy pursuit, you would engage in exercises that make you strong and maintain your strength, and this activity we would call flooring. It’s about getting from where you are to the next step in your journey, going from a lower order of functioning to a higher order of functioning. So we could also replace the word flooring with the DHA notion of personal development

But flooring goes substantially further.

A good floorer is aware of the subtle reactions of the life force to external and internal stimuli. A good floorer spots two things:

  1. What dials down the inner light
  2. What dials up the inner light

The adept floorer is in tune with authenticity, meaning that authenticity is the core value.

So, if you want to climb up the ladder of your flooring skills, you need to first get a feel for your own authenticity. Being authentic means being vulnerable, it means being true to your values and being aligned with your innate force and will. And whenever you feel this authenticity suffering you engage in some kind of flooring activity, of which there are five:

  1. Forgiving (yourself and others)
  2. Attending (to the core of the matter exclusively)
  3. Fighting (being a catalyst for change)
  4. Expanding (learning)
  5. Protecting (your boundaries)

This is the reason why adept floorers often talk about FAFEP in their gatherings, for it’s the main thing a good floorer engages in.

Please feel free to send your own examples of your flooring activities to Manus Braith (see contact) and he will make sure they will be posted here.
