As readers of The Profound (TP), you all know that in the Cymdeithas, we learn languages as if we were addicted to the process of acquiring other tongues. Sure, we also have our friends, the Siaraduon, who help us with our linguistic projects and act as our translators, but still, we just love expanding our understanding of humankind.

Many of you have contacted us and inquired about the best way to go forward in learning a language. First, let us stress that none of us use any apps or language courses to achieve our goals. Simply because we believe in an individual approach. Every person’s need for words differs. Some are artists and foremost need words related to the arts. Some are mechanics and need a totally different vocabulary. You get the point.
So, it is here that we have decided to publish the facts of how we think you should go about in your new language acquisition project.
When you observe a child learning its mother tongue, the first thing that becomes apparent is that the child is surrounded by the language. It hears it day in and day out. Therefore, you must also ensure that you hear the language and listen to it as much as possible. Find a radio station that broadcasts in the language or watch videos and films in that language. This is crucial to get a feel for the melody and speed that native speakers employ. Additionally, music with lyrics in the language can be very helpful.
